What Is It? First Person is a web series from WNET (PBS) that addresses sexuality and gender identity through their videos on YouTube and Facebook. The second season will be hosted by comedian and TV host, Mike Kelton. The award-winning web series hopes to dive deeper into the LGBTQ+ community to explore the stories that have yet to be told.
Through their Kickstarter campaign, they are hoping to deliver episodes on bullying, gay marriage, transitioning in the work place, a feature with Dennis and Judy Shepard (parents of Matthew Shepard who was murdered in what became one of the most high-profiled hate crimes against LGBTQ people) and more.
How Can I Help? First Person is currently raising money through July 8, 2016 via Kickstarter. As of today, the series has raised $8,801 out of their $30,000 goal and is backed by nearly 100 people!
For more information on the campaign and where your money is going, please check out the trailer video from Kelton on their Kickstarter page! And remember, every little bit helps!
What Do I Get? The series is offering some great perks including a sneak peek of the series before everyone else, official First Person swag, social media shout outs, set hang outs and more! You can check out some of the popular perks available below or visit the campaign page for more information!
I don't think I can stress enough the importance of supporting a project like this. These videos are for those who are struggling with who they are. I know that there's someone out there that would greatly appreciate having a resource like this to watch and to finally get Kelton to become the mini gay celebrity he's always wanted to be (his words, not mine)! Please also check out the first season of First Person and catch get a glimpse of what they're working so very hard to bring to life.
