This coming weekend marks the 4th annual Melbourne WebFest. From July 1 to July 3, the international web series festival will take place at Deakin Edge, Federation Square, highlighting 55 nominated web series from 15 countries.
In an effort to support the rapidly growing industry, Melbourne WebFest has increased their number of awards to be given this year to 23 versus last year's 16. Web series genres included are the following: Animation, Comedy, Drama, Non-Fiction and Spotlight on Melbourne and a full list of nominated series can be found here. Ten web series have been selected for a special screening this Thursday, to showcase local Australian talent, including one of our personal favorites, I Can't Even Series. But that's not all that's new this year. The fest will also be debuting their first ever web series, Melbourne WebFest Presents: 2046.
The weekend fest isn't just about awards as the fest will also include an Industry Development Day, hosted by LaTrobe University including master classes and cutting edge workshops on VR technology, pitching and audience engagement and directing.
For the first time ever, the fest will hold a fast-paced interactive pitching competition with ABC iview, for creators, awarding the winner with a cash prize intended to cover a trip to Marseille WebFest to attend their screenwriting residency sponsored by Fox Digital.
