So Friday's episode, where to start, where to start? Well, while many of you are bummed that this episode was a bit shorter than usual, creator Natalie Forward did reassure some worrisome souls in that a seven minute episode is soon within our reach! So hold tight guys!
This episode was the girls' first encounter with what most likely is the supernatural. Our girl Casey is pulling in some serious late nighters as she continues to research more on the Grantham House, she turns to find Jac snug as a bug on the couch and smiles. She tidies up a bit and heads to bed but not before placing a blanket on Jac, cue the, "awwww's!"
Casey seems to have forgotten to shut the computer off so she ever-so-quietly heads back to the camera but the only thing that's caught my attention, is Jac and her mumbling. Soft whispers of what sound like Jac saying, "no," fill the background as Casey signs off with her viewers but before she shuts down Jac shoots up and screams.
BFF Casey, rushes to her side in search of what's wrong and Jac asks her if it was her that was touching her face. Are you creeped out yet? I AM. Things take a comedic twist when Ellia comes swooping in with air freshener...Because, well - I don't really know why but. I think I'd have heart eyes with Ellia just showing up, she could've had a fly swatter for all I care.
I love the camera shots in this episode. One second we're at a wide shot of the girls in the dark room, the next we're cut to a close up of Casey shining a flashlight. The transitions are absolutely seamless and create the extra layer of adrenaline in the episode. Jac, still recovering from her scare which she credits to a bug (don't mind me rolling my eyes over here) is out of breath and struggling to piece together sentences while Ellia only contributes sarcastic commentary to Jac's reaction.
Jac says she thought it was Casey touching her face and God only knows why Jac would assume that but the comment goes unnoticed by Casey. SLOW BURN FOLKS. SLOW. FREAKING. BURN. And God bless Ellia in this episode because she just goes right back to being sassy with Jac by saying, "Maybe you were dreaming." Whether she means in regards to the bugs or to Casey touching her face, I'm gonna go with the latter though.
Casey finally comes full circle and asks, "What if it was a -" but is quickly shut down by Jac telling her not to even go there. Jac is clearly really shaken up by the house but I don't think she wants to admit it quite yet, regardless she goes on to complain about the filth of the house which is most likely why there are so many creepy crawlies.
We get some great comedic sass between Jac and Ellia which really offsets the underlying fear of ghosts in the home. That being said, Jac is quick to let Casey cuddle up and comfort her. Besides the humor in episode five, my favorite bit is probably the end when Jac turns to Casey, fear clearly in her eyes and says, "You don't think it was a bug do you?" I think after fighting it for awhile now Jac is finally coming to terms with what they've really gotten themselves into. It's not some joke, it's not bugs, it's bigger than the two of them and Jac doesn't seem quite sure if she's up for it.
That's it for episode five, tune in later today for a hauntingly new episode of Haunted or Hoax and be sure to tell Natalie, Natasha, Isabel and Sydney how amazing it is because sometimes people like that :)
